Weekend Update

Saturday Rich and I had a yardsale, and we sold and got rid of unnecessary items and made a few bucks in the process. Eugene, Marizza and our neighbors, Gary and his family, came and kept us company around noon, and of course other friends came by also, ie Sandy from UU, Sher & Glen, Malaika. I'd say it was a successful first time attempt at yardsaling (is that even a word? haha), although we almost cancelled because of rainclouds threatened to pour.

Yesterday, Sunday, Rich and I quickly ran some errands, quick because we needed to get back in time for our UU meeting. We went to VA BCH to get my hair cut, stopped by the bookstore and Costco and bought some items for the house, maybe more unnecessary items to replace the ones we sold. Jus kidding...actually we bought a small dictionary for the car for easy access for when we're on the road, other various self help books...And at Costco we bought three plants, one orchid that we'll give to Rich's friend who performed our wedding ceremony, a thank-you gift from us, and other misc. items for everyday use or consumption. Anyway, we were a few minutes late for the meeting but it was ok because everyone was glad we came. haha..ah, that's one thing we have to work on for sure...we have to stop going across the bay when we know we have to get back before five pm. At the meeting, Sandy had a group presentation on Godless America. Apparently, various Christian groups attempted five times since the conception of the Constitution to add God in the ammendments but failed to do so. Lately the debate of whether there should be a separation between church and state is on the front burner once again. And it's a big issue. Many Christians feel that morality should be brought into the conscienness of the americans, and to do so is to ammend the constitution. As far as my opinion on this matter goes, I don't think there's a need to change what's already been written. To do so would only create chaos among people from different cultures and religious background and lack thereof. Apparently our forefathers saw this coming and thought it all out and it's work perfectly well. I think that's what allowed this country to evolve to what it is now, as imperfect as it is. Isn't that ONE of the many reasons they came here was to have religious freedom? To pray to whatever God they please? In Ireland, Catholics and Protestants are more likely foes than friends. Here in the US, it's possible for them to be friends. Last week I read an article featuring two girls rooming together in college who shared everything else but their religion. This country made it possible to have more tolerance for diversity. Our Constitution has allowed us to have tolerance for each others differences and it's great...slowly we're moving to the right direction..the direction of a more tolerant place. I understand that religion plays a big role in people's lives, and yes, it gives hope to those in need, but I have many friends from all walks of life, gays and lesbians, friends from different cultural and religious backgrounds and I would never dare impose my belief system on them because they have the right to believe whatever they choose to just as I have the right to choose mine. I've always respected my friends's ways because I love them regardless of what they believe in.
